Local Area Information
El Puertecico is approximately 980 metres above sea level with a population of around 170.
The village is based near a Ramblas (dry riverbed), with the nearest bigger village to us being Santa Maria de Nieva which is about a 5 minute drive, our nearest main town is Huercal Overa which is about a 12 minute drive from us.
Our location is perfect for Walking Holdays, Cycling Holidays, Mountain Biking, Triathlon Training, Photography Holidays, Painting Holidays, Bird Watching Holidays, and the clearest skies at night.
Santa Maria de Nieva is our nearest village and has a couple of bars, a pharmacy and a mini Supermarket.
Huercal Overa has a population of around 19,000 inhabitants, here you will find Banks, Clothes Shops, Bakeries, Supermarkets (Lidl, Mercadona, Consum, and Dia), Pharmacies, Theatre. Most shops open from approximately 9am to 1.30pm and then reopen at 5pm to 8pm. Some shops vary from these times but all shops are closed on Sundays. Market day is on Mondays, with a smaller market on Thursdays.
San Juan de los Terreros is our nearest beach, with a long promenade and 3 areas of clean unspoilt beaches.
Mojacar Pueblo is your typical whitewash Spanish village and is approximately 40 minutes from us. There are two distinctly different parts to Mojacar which are approximately 3 km apart. The Pueblo is the original village perched on a hillside on the foothills of the Sierra Cabrera. The views are stunning with many restaurants and cafes, and souvenir shops. The pueblo has cobbled streets which are narrow and steep steps (a lift has now been installed). Market day is Wednesdays.
Mojacar Playa is the more commercial centre with a long promenade with a very large wide safe beach with many restaurants, bars and cafes.

You will find most of the local villages/towns have a market at least once a week selling a variery of products from Leather Goods, Fashion, Shoes, Bedding, etc also most have a food market included within the main market selling fruit, vegetables, cooked meats, cheeses, herbs, flowers/plants.
